TIME DOES HEAL!!

yesterday was a very busy day with adjustment to being in the hospital again-jane is at UPMC Horizon-Farrell-not too far from her house and the parking is free. it will be perfect as the company/friends she relies on to help her thru this mess can scoot up for short visits and keep the time occupied. today the decison was made to go the the rehab floor on the third floor at this hospital for now. when her strength is able to tolerate more hours of therapy a change can be made. the unit has 12 beds and a spot is all set for her tomorrow sometime. when u see her she will have normal clothes on and not the hospital garb. her speech and mental alertness seems to be best at suppertime. barked the order to me "i want to get in the chair' she still has no movement on the right side. they use a bed alarm on the bed so whe won;t flip out like flipper as sometimes she is ragdoll. she has been getting real strong with pulling herself up using the siderail. appetite improving and thank god the swallow compartment was not affected. well for now doug and i head back to home tomorrow. jane told me to continue to go on our vacation friday to see the grandchildren in florida til may 4. i have seen so much love /help/etc. amongst her friends and feel comfortable with this decision. eileen ,mom, and dad to stay for a while. well thanks for all the help with hugs,foods,etc. and just the phone calls. i have some neat pictures but do not know how to post on her blog! sorry and adios moe

BRAIN SWELLING IS LESS!

no new swelling but mental alertness slow-can speak few words, no strengh on right side. knows what is going on. EXHAUSTING FOR HER. had physical therapy and occupational review when there after lunch-did participate and then drifts off to a sound sleep. visiting her in rounds. everyone getting beat. tim to get doug at airport tonight-arrives 745p. catch u later and thanks for the food and prayers. adios all neuro to see tomorrow and evaluate next step. i am staying another day.

NEED FOR HOSPITAL RETURN!!

jane's first night at home very trying-she was like a ping pong wizzard with no place to go-bounching fron laying flat,trying to sit up and down with no sense of balance,and legs driving her crazy-at one point patty and dad and eileen had to lower her to the floor from the chair. after the bed arrived i ended up sleeping in the bed with her. during yesterday several stopped by-i might forget the names so will say ONE BIG THANK U TOO ALL THAT HELPED-food givers,emotional givers ,and plain givers. after the visiting nurse showed up she go the ball rolling and it was deemed necessary to return to same hospital group but one 15 minutes away. waiting now for md to call-she had a comfortable night with some ativan needed-her right side is zippo in strength and speech very minimal-i think something is brewing fast-had repeat cat scan last night-will know those results soon. did discuss the DNR with her and she agrees. so will catch u later. she is totally alert but very groggy. adios us doug flies in tonight-her brother

IT WAS A BETTER DAY YESTERDAY FOR JANE!

eileen arrived saftly wednesday and me and mom and dad on thursday. thanks tim and addison for airport run and lisa for our run. yesterday was a busy day with jane switching to another room. first part of day had maybe one word speech,no movement on right at all. was restless night prior so she was vested in bed for safety. was in a recliner chair for several hours and tolerated well. as day progressed whole sentences were coming out with an exhausting effort at times-the neurosurgeons came couple times and say the progression. was able to do short cat naps. has small head bandage on the left side of head. able to eat without choking but appetite fair. has no headache which is good just a bad back ache. lastnight was scared to be byself so eileen and i gave her a bedbath and eileen opted to sleep with her. this am eileen called and said jane slept couple hours-legs restless and she said holy shit as word of the day. and she can move couple fingers on the right hand. as far as cards to send-just to house and they are talking rehab/what is next step probably today. thanks to the junk monkies there are several treats that have been sent in. thank u susie/with your amy ride home for me last night mom didn't fall down stairs-slept good etc dad no anxiety attacks barry trying to find something relaxing to do for time today, and timmy will be planning our trip into city mom has had bath and now is moes time

PRAYERS WORK WELL-THANKS

barry just called around 345p and said operation complete and went well. he will see jane around 5pm. the md seems to think some of the nasty symptoms she has will resolve somewhat. catch u later p.s. when he called i was out and found a dirty old good luck penney that i picked up

LOVE THOSE PRE OP MEDS!!

got a call from patty who was with jane-around 11 and she said jane would be heading into surgery within 20 minutes and she had some pre med tranquilizer heading in. barry and tim on the way-had moved or time up quicker-patty-nurse anesthesia giver from her prior big surgery at other hospital in november-thank u for all your professional nursing skill help. apparently the plan is to do surgery up thru her nose-as jane and i say up your nose with a rubber hose!! told patty i would not be too surprised if jane was on ventilator post op due to her plastic chest and unable to take deep breaths-even with the paralysis on one side might warrant that but she was on a ventilator post op in november. well off to try and book some tickets for jane's brother doug who works a million hours week at his restaurant so there is no rest for the weary!! adios moe

THE REASON JANE IS TRULY A SURVIVOR-HER FRIENDS ARE WITH HER!

Tonight Kelly, Marian, Debbie, Joann, Michelle, Sue and I all went to see our girl Jane. I will be totally frank in what we saw and felt. It was very hard to see her in that condition. Even though I had been talking to Barry and knew her status, nothing prepared me for actually seeing her that way. The one thing I will say though is I am so glad that I went. She seemed sad and happy to see us. All of us girls including Jane spent a lot of time crying. It was hard to be strong for her when she just cried till you thought her heart along with our own would break. She seemed to be in some discomfort at times. It is hard to know exactly what to do because you just want to make it all better and take her and Tim and Barry home. The guys both looked exhausted. So much stress on a family, I can't even comprehend how they feel. At one time she reached out to hold Tim's hand and just sobbed. You could tell she wanted to tell him so much. My favorite line of hers regarding Tim is "I have such a good kid." I am going to make sure that I tell him that. I made sure that I told her about everyone who has called me asking and worrying about her. I wanted her to know how many people care. It was very hard to leave. When I left I went up to hug her and she was just sobbing. I looked her in the eyes and I could tell she wanted to say something to me. We have a running joke that whenever I call her I ask her what she is doing. She always answers me "I am talking to you!!" So I told her that after this surgery she would say that to me again. She concentrated so hard and then she very slowly said to me "I am talking to you" I don't know if that makes sense to others but that is a moment in my life that I will never forget. I just adore Jane. I don't know what to do to help except to tell you all that until you get here we are here and we will love her all we can. I think you need to get here soon though. She needs you guys. I asked her if she wanted to see you and she shook her head up a down as a definite yes. For all of you who are traveling have a safe trip. I will be contacting Barry for what is going on tomorrow. I will pray for Jane to rest well tonight.
